Introduction to
The Camouflage Clinic

Camouflage Tattooing is an innovative service that uses specialised camouflage techniques to heal and conceal all types of scars and stretch marks, irrespective of their size, colour, or shape.

The process involves custom-blended pigments that are matched to an individual’s skin tone, filling in areas where natural pigment is missing. Once healed, the treated areas become less noticeable-significantly smoothing out and improving skin texture.

This treatment is suitable for all skin colours and is effective on various types of scars including post-surgical scars, self-harm scars, injury scars, and areas with hypopigmentation.

We use the NUE CONCEAL system that utilises a sophisticated skin tone colour matching device and app, which helps eliminate human error, ensuring precise colour matching for a seamless restoration of the skin’s original appearance.

About

With a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and registration with AHPRA ( Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia) Robina’s career began at SCGH in 1993, subsequently working in various critical and specialised areas such as ICU, CCU, medical and surgical wards.

In 1999 she moved to the USA, taking on a role as a cardiac research nurse at the Brigham and Women’s hospital in Boston – a Harvard affiliated teaching hospital.

Returning to Australia in late 2000 she worked in private practise as a cardiac rehabilitation nurse before taking a brief hiatus to start a family.

Re-entering the workforce in 2011 she worked at Hollywood Hospital as a clinical support for nursing students.

In early 2024, Robina discovered paramedical tattooing, completing a comprehensive international Nue Conceal course, and a skin education international course before commencing practice within Academy Face and Body, Subiaco.

There are two techniques in camouflage tattooing
and a highly recommended skin preparation

1. Skin Preparation

LED light therapy is an excellent preparation for the skin before and during treatment.

LED light energises your skin cells which then produces more collagen and elastin.

At Academy Face and Body our HEALITE is one of the most advanced LED light machines on the market.

2. Inkless

Inkless treatment uses a medical grade serum to smooth out any texture in scars or stretch marks. This treatment is tattooed into the skin and stimulates your body’s own healing response. In some cases it will stimulate your melanocytes ( cells responsible for your skins colour) to colour correct itself. The advantage of this is that is a permanent change.

How many sessions do you need?

The amount of inkless sessions varies per individual and case by case. Typically 2-3 sessions for most cases. There will be improvement from the very first session.

Healing time: 3-6 weeks for most cases, however a darker skin tone may take up to 10 weeks to heal due to the melanin content in the skin.

Eligibility

Given the nature of paramedical tattoo work, it is an important duty of care consideration that some people must not be treated:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Those taking Ro/accutane or skin medications
  • Those taking any blood thinners
  • Those with a blood bourne disorder or disease

Pricing

It is very hard to quote pricing in messages, sight unseen, as it is important to see and feel the structure and texture of the skin to best determine the number of skin preparation treatments and actual inkless/camouflage treatments required per individual. *Any quotes given in messages will be an estimate until meeting in consultation where a more accurate quote is given to avoid over quoting.

3. Camouflage Tattoo Treatment

Camouflage Tattoo Treatment, custom blended SKIN TONE inks / pigments are matched to your own skin tone , using the Nue Conceal reader device. ( This technology was developed by a French company and is now considered the leading technology for use in this field and is used world wide.) Once the device has read your skin tone perfectly the precise colour of your skin is tattooed in to conceal the scar or stretch marks.

How many sessions do I need

The amount of camouflage sessions varies per individual and case by case. Typically 1-3 sessions for most cases, however if starting with inkless and moving on to camouflage you may only require 2 treatments. There will be improvements from the very first session.

Healing time: 3-6 weeks for most cases, however a darker skin tone may take up to 10+ weeks to heal due to the melanin content in the skin.

Patience is key in the healing process as change will not happen overnight. However your white scars and stretch marks are going nowhere in a hurry and the more patience you have the better the end result.

Frequently Asked Questons

What is Scar and Stretch Mark Camouflage Tattooing?

Camouflage tattooing is the process of identifying your skin tone and pigment perfectly and tattooing in that colour to hide stretch marks and white scars.
The latest technology is from a French Company called Nue Conceal which has created a device that will identify your skin tone and pigment perfectly, and then allows you to tattoo in that colour.
Nue Conceal is currently the only skin tone pigment range with the valuable integrity CE certification and Europe’s strict REACH certification.

What is the difference between Permanent Tattoos and Semi Permanent Camouflage Tattooing?

A permanent tattoo is generally a black ink design on the body that will last forever, and in order to do this the tattoo artist goes deep into your skin layers.
A semi permanent tattoo does not go as deep into your skin and will last anywhere from 2-5 years. The advantage of only having a semi permanent tattoo is that as we age so does our skin, and our skin colour will change with age. Hence it is better to have touch ups every 2-5 years so your colour will always match your skin.

How can I be sure the colour will match my skin tone?

Nue Conceal has developed the first of its kind device that reads your skin tone and transmits the data to the Nue app. The patented device reads a person’s skin tone.
The numerical reading of the colour space will then be transmitted to the app which then gives the accurate pigment suggestions. This process then reduces the time spent colour matching and ensures a seamless camouflage result while minimising human error.

What happens to my camouflage if I get a tan?

It is important to avoid the sun on the area you want treated as much as possible for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
Once you have had the treatment it is also important to avoid the sun for 2-3 weeks after as if there is too much sun exposure in those first 2-3 weeks it can result in Hyperpigmentation (meaning the skin colour goes darker than your natural skin tone)

Is it painful?

It is nowhere near as painful as an ink tattoo. On a scale of one to ten ( ten being the worst pain imaginable) most people describe it as a 2-3 out of 10.

How much does it cost?

Prices will vary depending on the size of the area to be treated. An accurate quote will be given in consultation once the consultant has seen the area.
Prices will vary from $300 for a small area to $1000 for larger and multiple areas.
A discount will apply if you commit to the full treatment plan.

What will happen after my camouflage or inkless treatment?

Everyone’s skin will vary with healing times. Some people will have redness for 3 days some will be red for a week.
Some people will get slight itching as the skin heals. Afterwards, the area will turn dark; this is normal and part of the healing process.
Once again everyone’s healing time will vary, with some as early as 2 weeks, but some 6 weeks.
